Assess your Wigan site
Discuss drainage installation, waterlogging or improvements to existing drainage with Mitre Civils UK LTD. Share the site location, photographs, intended use and access constraints so the proposed scope and next step can be assessed.
Send the site postcode, photographs, available drawings and proposed programme. We will discuss the appropriate next step and information needed for a quotation.
Land Drainage Installation Wigan
Land drainage for waterlogged gardens, commercial grounds and rural sites. Investigate water movement, soil conditions and a suitable outlet before selecting a collector layout.
Define the scope
Start with the cause of waterlogging. Compaction, low finished levels, incoming runoff and slow-draining subsoil can look similar at the surface. Map where water collects and how long it remains after rainfall before deciding whether surface shaping, interception or subsurface drainage is appropriate.

Clay-rich deposits occur across parts of Lancashire and the North West. Permeability, compaction and groundwater vary locally, so regional geology provides context rather than a diagnosis of your site. Collector routes, filter materials, maintenance access and the receiving outlet should be considered together. A French drain or herringbone layout is suitable only where site conditions support it. Infiltration depends on ground performance; an attenuation feature stores water temporarily and still requires an agreed discharge route.
Plan excavation around access widths, buried services, established planting and the use of the land. Farms and equestrian premises may need working areas, gateways or routes to remain available. Agree the sequence, handling of excavated material and inspection points before collectors are covered.

Specify reinstatement as carefully as drainage. Establish the areas to be levelled, the quality of replacement soil and the intended turf or surface finish. Allow for establishment of soft landscaping and retain accessible points for inspection and future maintenance.
For surface water proposals, consider the current national SuDS standards for England where applicable, local requirements and the receiving outlet. BS 8301 is a withdrawn legacy standard; the designer should identify applicable current standards. Agree any sewer or watercourse permissions before affected works proceed.
